(After a burst of New Year’s inspiration, I’m ready to present the most huge of my current plans…)

What do you do when some song gets stuck into your head? Well, render it into Quenya, obviously. No, it won’t go away, but it’ll be more fun that way!
A fruit of really ENDLESS work; started in August (sic) and made and re-made multiply, including two total junkings with start from scratch. From ‘Eldamar’s Greatest Hits 7th A. 1170’, a story of an Avarin Tatya (WJ:QE, 380-1) returning to Aman of the Nth Age and expecting to join the circle of mighty and terrible Ñoldor of old he heard from the legends about…

Ranyar hehtainë: Eär yála marda,
Equë ‘athásë’ Tatya ’váviéla,
Silumë mína ménas Eldamarda,
Merila orta enel calloyar:

Ty’ írë ola Ñoldorinwa, Ñoldorinwa, Ñoldorinwa,

An quetiltë nanwa Quenya, sivë cildar Eldarin:

Sivë cildar Eldarin (enque)
Merit ola Noldorin, merit ola Noldorin!

Linguistic Commentary
Marda (and Eldamarda) are not the ‘extended’ stem of ‘home’ (PE17:107), but rather fixed allatives.
As described in VT47:11, enel is ‘among’, when you are one of the things recounted, as opposed to imbe ‘betwwen’, when you are the separator of a different kind.
I accept the verb mer- ‘to wish’ though not attested after 1948 beyond the (dubious) Merin sentence. According to its usage in PE22 QVS, I feel it encompasses all the distinct meanings of English ‘to wish/to want’. Though I make use of later ír- ‘to desire’ (cf. Irmo), when needed for better word flow.
Oanwa < áwa-nwa ‘forbidden’. Rather than accepting Tolkien’s jotted awanwa at face value, I notice that during the retraction period, when the stress goes to the first syllable, awa would contract to oa. It could’ve been stopped by the long or stressed second vowel, but the length is banished by a consonant cluster; while the stress would’ve fall to the second syllable in augmentation only — but the inherently perfective element -nwa is never used with augments.
For thur- ‘to delve deep, to the roots’ see D. Salo’s essay on Elvish words. His version seems to me more plausible that Hostetter’s ‘to seek’, due to the existence of a widely used homonym THUR ‘to hide’ in Sindarin.
Ánea: my reconstruction of an imperfect of anya ‘to arrive’, both attested in LVS.
I take YAN as in VT49 for ‘to join’, which still allows yan-tā ‘a bridge’ while making all the derivatives cited.
Valta ‘pride’: reconstructed from Leeds Noldorin blaud.
Alasse is not obsoleted by LĀ ‘not’: as in Etym, it can still be taken from GAL-AS < GAL ‘to thrive’.
Entulda: ‘returned’, < en/tul/nā.
Ilu pella, Ilu pelo lá ‘beyond the border of all Existence’: the self-contradiction is deliberate.
Sa-sí ‘to use s for th’, from the Shibboleth.

Note also the shift of dialect between ‘pro-Fëanorian’ in part one and later, Nth-Age, in part two.
’1170′ is duodecimal for 1956, of course.

Renato Carosone Tu Vuo’ Fa’ L’Americano Lyrics

Ñoldorinwa... You made my day!

Very ambitious!

I don’t pretend to comprehend it all, yet. Need a few more readings.

(why the obsession with ë spelling? It’s superfluous; my opinion only, of course)

edit: ignore my rant; I’m in a foul mood because it’s bloody Monday again:)

+Tamas Ferencz Two reasons: t) follow the Professor’s approach of using bare orthography for drafts and linguistics — and coloured for final fiction texts; p) this to be published not only on linguistic resources, and thus for recognition. Maybe I was too laconic for the commentary part; I assume many things in the language to be immediately recognisable.
